Need to Rush a Big Move? 5 Things To Remember

Occasionally, a homeowner finds the need to move quickly due to a job transfer or other extenuating circumstances. This can be a hassle as moving is certainly not an easy process to begin with and a rushed move is even harder, especially when there is a large amount of stuff along with moving a long distance. Here are a few ways you might be able to help the process go just a little bit smoother.

Use Modern Technology to Make the Process Easier

Fortunately, finding required information for a big move online is usually quick and easy. Homeowners can go to the web to find real estate agents to assist with buying or renting a new place to live. They can also read reviews on different agents to determine which one would be a best fit for them. By having a smartphone and email, the real estate agent can be in constant contact and is able to provide information by text or sending photographs of the interiors and exteriors of potential new homes.

Get Organized Quickly

To make a big and fast move more efficient, begin to get organized immediately.  You can do this by making a written list and preparing appropriately. To reduce stress throw or give away things that are no longer needed such as outgrown clothing, broken appliances, and worn furniture. Everything that is packed on moving day requires unpacking at a new destination, thus you can make the process less expensive, less time consuming, and overall more simple by decluttering beforehand as much as possible.

Packing and Moving Day

Packing and moving is often stressful due to the large amount of physical labor. If a homeowner also has to deal with moving with children or family pets, the situation becomes more complex. This is a good time to recruit family or friends for assistance with babysitting children or loading boxes. Of course, it is vital to rent a truck that is large enough to hold an entire home’s contents for the move. Call several businesses that provide truck rentals, like Jamieson Car and Truck Rental, to determine the cost.

List a Home for Sale

While preparing to move, commonly, homeowners must also list their current home on the market. This means getting the house ready for viewing by making sure it is clean on the inside and outside. At the same time, it is a good idea to contact utility, telephone, and cable companies to find out how to have services disconnected to avoid paying additional service charges.

Pack a Box of Items Needed on the Day of the Move

When arriving at a new home, families need a few essentials right away to eat meals and bathe. Pack a box of necessary items to place in the moving truck last, in order to have it unloaded first at a new home. Things to have ready immediately are glassware, dishes, and eating utensils along with bath towels and soap to avoid a fast rush to a store for these items.
