The Best Colors For Your Front Door

The color of your front door says a lot about your home and you. Below is a list of the criteria you should keep in mind to help you choose the right color along with a few color suggestions.

The Right Color

There is something very important you have to consider first and foremost - which color suits your home the best. Yes, maybe your favorite color is bright red but that doesn't mean it will look good if the color of your house is the same. The best solution here is to combine the door with the accents in the house. For instance, if the frames on your windows are beige, paint the front door in that range.

The Paint

Make sure to use the right kind of paint. There are many different finishes and you need to know which one to choose. For instance, some finishes will help cover any unevenness. If you don't have experience in this area, you can ask the assistant at your local paint or hardware store.

Another important factor in choosing a color is what appeals to you. Don't pick a color just because this is modern at the moment. If you love purple, paint it purple. If it doesn't look right, compromise and use light purple.

You can apply this no matter what needs renovation. Keep in mind that paint changes over time, especially if it is exposed to the sun everyday. Make sure you try out the color before you buy a full gallon of paint. Test it out and look at it in the daylight. When you're at the store it will be a little different because of the indoor florescent lights.

Some Color Suggestions

Deep Red

Dark red is a classic and is also really bold. It looks a little serious but is a great color for a front door.

Aubergine looks amazing. It's interesting yet not too dark and very stylish as well.

Yellow is a very happy sunny color that looks welcoming and warm.

Blue is not used often so if you want to be different, this is for sure a color that your neighbours will appreciate. Deeper blue is serious while light blue is calm and dreamy.

Bright red

Be careful with this one. Don't overuse it in or outside of your home because it can be alarming. It can brighten up your home, though. It's also cheerful and playful.

Light green is sunny and fresh. You don't see a lot of these so your house will definitely stand out if you choose green.

Black is a color that is very elegant and stylish. At the same time, it's dramatic. Use it if your house is a lighter color, otherwise the whole outlook of your home will be too dark.
