Making a Retreat in Your Backyard
We all need a place to go. Call it an art studio, a planting shed or a get-away place. It can be a green house, a camper, converted playhouse or a chicken coop. Whatever it is, you can make it into what some are calling now the "she shed".
This is a place where you can go to draw, write or just be in for a quiet moment in time to escape the stresses and strains of every day life.
You can build an elaborate little house for yourself or just convert what is already there. Make it your own by bringing in special items that are unique to you. Select things that help you feel comfortable and make it easier for you to relax and create in your sanctuary. Things to consider might include candles, family pictures, floral arrangements, greenery, statues and small keep sakes.
Your space doesn't have to be wired for electricity or even have any of the modern conveniences. It is your space to do as you wish! Make it what you want it to be. It can be anything from shabby chic to rustic. It is up to you.
It can be made from surplus materials from near by remodeling or construction sites. It can come from the thrift store finds or Macy's purchases. You can even hire an architect and build a beautiful full service cottage for yourself.
The secret to all of this is that you can make for yourself a hide-a-away in the back yard that is your creative space or just an escape where you can go for a quiet bath or meditation to help sustain and refresh yourself. Utilize what is already in your backyard and landscape and create something all your own.
