Items That Shouldn’t Be in Your Living Room

When decorating your living room, be sure to avoid all the clutter that can take your space from fab to drab. Here are four things that should never find their way into this room.

1. The Kids’ Toys

Just because you do most of your living in the living room, it doesn’t mean it should be a pit-stop for items of entertainment, such as your children’s latest toys and gadgets. Instead of letting these end up scattered all over the floor, try to install some storage options so that they can be dumped in there at the end of the play session. Examples could include basket drawers or Ottomans.

2. Food Packaging

You’ve enjoyed a delicious take-out meal, but now its packaging is left on the table or floor. This turns your living room into a student’s apartment. Nip it in the bud by keeping a small waste basket handy so you can get rid of all the trash before it piles up.

3. Desk-Related Clutter

You don’t have a desk in your living room but you do have a coffee table and you end up using it for the same purposes: it becomes a handy surface for you to drop your mobile phone, iPad and other gadgets, paperwork, bills, and so on. But refrain from doing this. Rather set up a neat and tidy place in the study where you can tackle all that needs to be done for work or the paying of utilities. As for your gadgets, drop them in a small basket or box so they’re out of the way when you’re in the room - this also ensures more connected family time without technological interruptions!

4. Ugly Wires

There is no excuse for the display of ugly, messy wires anymore! Use desk curtains to keep them concealed or place the cords against the wall with eye-catching vine clips. Practical and decorative.  *Image courtesy of Flickr Creative Commons
