Four Simple Ways to Save Money With Your Next Home Improvement Project

Home is where the heart is, so you’ll likely want to spend a little time and money making it your own. You don’t have to bust your budget to fix up your space, though. There are many ways to save money on your next home improvement project, and they’re all easy to do.

Use Paint

A fresh coat of paint will do wonders for your home. If you’re sick of looking at your ugly cabinets, just paint them a nice glossy white or other color of your choice. Got old, ugly brass hardware on your doors? Take it all down and give it a new finish with a coat or two of spray paint. You can paint furniture, hardware, light fixtures, trim, walls, and pretty much anything in between. Paint is cheap, easy, and it can completely transform a room.

Shop the Curb

When you’re working on your home, you should keep your eyes open for building materials, furniture, and home décor everywhere you go. People throw out perfectly usable items on a regular basis. If you see something that’s been thrown out, whether it’s in a dumpster or sitting on the curb, don’t be afraid to grab it and make it your own. You can also find building materials at auctions, estate sales, yard sales, thrift store, or even your friend’s backyard. Almost everyone has something they want to get rid of, and they’ll usually give it to you for cheap, or free.

Get Your Hands Dirty

If you’re tackling a remodel, consider completing some of the work yourself instead of hiring a contractor. Many jobs are easy enough for a typical homeowner to do. Just make sure you research the project thoroughly first and have a good idea of what you’re going to do before you start. At the very least, consider doing the demo work to save a few bucks before the pros come in.

Shop Online

Though you can sometimes find good deals on new items in stores, it’s much easier to find a bargain online. When you’re looking for finishing touches, like rugs, pillows, and other home decor, you can browse sale sections or use coupons to save a bundle. Best of all, the items are shipped directly to your door, which saves you time and gas money, too.

Home improvement projects don’t have to turn into expensive remodel projects. With these tips, you can improve your home without breaking the bank.
